Triage and sprint planning change many cards at once. Rather than open ten cards one by one, select them on the board and change them together from the selection bar, or drag them as one group. Each change is a single step: one Undo takes it back for every card.
Select Cards
- Cmd-click a card (Ctrl-click on Windows) to add it to the selection, or take it out.
- Shift-click selects every card from the last one you picked to this one, within a column (on a board with swimlanes, reading its rows top to bottom). Shift-click a card in another column and it's added on its own, starting the next range.
- Shift+Space on a focused card adds it or takes it out, from the keyboard.
- Select in a card's right-click menu picks that card and starts select mode: until the selection is cleared, a click on a card adds it or takes it out instead of opening it. On a phone, hold your finger on a card for its menu, choose Select, then tap the others.
A selected card has a ring round it in the board's focus colour, and the count is read out ("3 cards selected"). Face-down cards on a board that hides writing can't be selected.
To clear the selection, press Escape, the cross at the end of the bar (Clear Selection), or click a card that isn't selected (which opens it, as ever). A card that leaves the board (moved off it, filtered out, trashed) leaves the selection too.
The Selection Bar
While cards are selected, a bar under the board's header names how many ("3 cards selected") and holds what you can do to them all:
- Move To: one of the board's columns. The cards go to the end of it, in the order they sat on the board.
- Assign: one of the people a card can be assigned to, or Unassign.
- Priority: Urgent, High, Medium, Low or No Priority.
- Labels: add one of the plan's labels to every card that lacks it, or, under Remove, take one off them all.
- Set Field: a custom field every selected card's type has (Choice, Checkbox, Number, Currency, Percent, Rating, Date, Text or Person). Pick it, then its value; Clear empties it on them all.
- Flag (or Remove Flag, when they're all flagged).
- Archive (or Restore) and Move to Trash.
- ? opens this page.
A card that can't take a change is left as it was: a Note with no Assignee isn't assigned, and a card whose type can't be in a column stays put, with one message for them all ("2 cards stayed: their types can't be Done"). On a narrow board the actions show as icons alone, each named when you hover it.
Drag Several Cards
Press a selected card and drag: the whole selection comes with it, drawn as a little stack with a count. Let go and they land together at the drop point, in the order they sat on the board, as one step. Drop them in a swimlane and each takes that row's value; drop them on another board and they land there (any card that board doesn't show stays behind); drop them on the Trash button and they all go to the Trash. On a sorted board, each lands where the sort puts it.
Pressing a card that isn't selected drags just that card, and clears the selection.
Who Can
Editors and Participants select cards and use the bar; Archive, Restore and Move to Trash are an Editor's alone. A Viewer can't select: a Cmd-click opens the card, as a click does. Selecting works on a board on its tab, maximised or filling it, but not on the smaller board inside a Dashboard slot (maximise it first).
Your selection is your own: nobody else sees it, and it isn't saved. Collaborators see only the changes you make with it, as they happen.
