When you open the search panel from inside a plan, its scope grows to include that plan's tabs, its boards and its cards. That turns search into a quick way around the plan you're in, not just a way to open a different one. It works on view-only links too, since it only moves you around.
Tabs
The Tabs group matches the plan's tabs by name, whether each holds a Board, a Sheet, a Dashboard or a Form, and marks the one you are on with current so you can tell a jump from a no-op. Picking a tab switches to it. On a plan with many tabs (or tab folders) this is quicker than scanning the tab bar.
With an empty box the panel lists every tab in the plan, so you can open it and arrow straight down to one. The Tabs group shows up to 8 matches; type more of a name to narrow a long list.
Boards
The Boards group matches the titles of the plan's boards, each marked with the tab it is on, so a board titled "Release Train" on the Sprint tab is one search away. Picking one switches to its tab. A board titled the same as its tab shows only under Tabs.
Cards
The Cards group finds the plan's cards that aren't archived or in the Trash. Type a card's number (12 or #12) to go straight to it, or words from its title or description. The card whose number you typed comes first, then cards whose title matches, then those that match only in their description, the most recently changed first. Each shows its number, its title and the tab of the board it sits on.
Picking a card opens it in the card panel, on that tab: search switches to the tab first if you are elsewhere. A card that no board shows (its status has no column anywhere) opens where you are. The group shows up to 8 cards; type more of a title, or the number, to reach the one you want.
To browse every card, or to narrow them by type or field, use Find in the bottom-right corner (shown on a tab with a board on it). See Items for how cards are stored and found, and Cards for working with them. To narrow what one board shows, use Filter cards in the board's header. See Boards.
What it does not search
- A board's column names, a sheet's cells, a dashboard's contents and a form's questions: use a sheet's own find (
⌘F) for its cells. See Sheets. - Archived cards and cards in the Trash: see Items.
- Comments and the names of people in the plan.
- Other plans' contents: from anywhere, other plans are found by name only.
This scope only appears inside a plan. From the Explorer page, search covers your plans, plans shared with you, folders, teams, settings and help instead, see Finding Plans and Folders.
